Backyard Skills: Rain Gardens
Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (PST)
San Juan Capistrano, CA
Build a rain garden and harvest the rain passively. A rain garden is a smart design technique that utilizes good rainwater best. It’s built by creating a basin filled with water loving plants, rainwater is then diverted, either naturally or intentionally, to flow into the basin to nourish plants. Learn site observation techniques, garden mapping, native and water loving plants, tools, maintenance and more. Prepare for the rainy season and join us.
Harvest the rain passively with a rain garden and reap the benefits. Create an attractive green space in your yard that welcomes local and beneficial birds, butterflies, insects and reptiles. A rain garden slows down water, allowing it to seep into the ground to create healthy soil, thriving plants, and replenish the aquifer. Not to mention, reduces often harmful runoff from running to the ocean. You’ll divert an average of 1800 gallons for every 1” of rain away from the gutter and into your garden. Protect our watershed and learn how to build a rain garden.
